Cheryl Treadway, an American citizen was being held hostage with her three children by her boyfriend Ethan Nickerson. Nickerson had taken Treadway’s cell phone and demanded that he accompany her to pick up their children from school. The man was also carrying a large knife.

After the two returned to Treadway’s home with the children, she was able to convince Nickerson to let her use her phone and place an online pizza order at their local Pizza Hut in Avon Park. Treadway included the message “Please help. Get 911 to me,” in the section for her delivery instructions, as well the message “911hostage help!”

Candy Hamilton, the manager of the Pizza Hut recognized the address as a frequent customer, and called 911.

Hostage negotiator Lt. Curtis Ludden from the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene first and as he pulled his cruiser up to the home, Treadway exited the house carrying one of her children. Unfortunately, two of her children were still inside the house with their father, who was apparently high on narcotics.

At first Nickerson refused to answer the door, but after 20 minutes, Ludden was able to convince him to come out peacefully. Nickerson, 26, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a weapon without intent to kill, battery, false imprisonment and obstructing justice by depriving communication to law enforcement.
