Airtel Is Being Asked To Withdraw Their Misleading 4G Internet Ads

Airtel’s new campaign, which is a bold claim to the speed of their 4G connection has landed into some trouble. The ad says that if you find a faster network, Airtel will pay your mobile bills for your lifetime!

The ad starts with a speed challenge, wherein two girls are set to find out information using their internet connections (including downloading an entire movie). Needless to say, the girl with 4G connection wins with ease.

The ASCI’s notice to Airtel, states, “The claim in the ad, ‘Airtel 4G is the fastest network ever’ and ‘If your network is faster, we will pay your mobile bills for life’, is misleading by omission in the absence of appropriate disclaimers in the print, TV, and hoarding advertisements.

Airtel has been asked to modify the said ad before October 7th. Here’s the rule which ASCI is going by :

Advertisements shall not contain statements or visual presentation which directly or by implication or by omission or by ambiguity or by exaggeration are likely to mislead the consumer about the product advertised or the advertiser or about any other product or advertise.

Here’s the ad:
